Melbourne Cup Heat 1
Thompson trained Greyhound who is a Group 2 winner after only seven career starts.
He’s drawn wide for this which is the concern, but in his last three starts he’s run a 5.08 first sectional time or better – which should see him flying across to lead.
If he flies out of the boxes, he should be able to find the front heading into the first turn and from there, take plenty of running down.
Recommended Bet: Despacito to WIN at $3.60.
Melbourne Cup Heat 2
Last start Group 3 Silver Bullet winner who beat home a class field of Group 1 winners at The Meadows that day over 525m.
He’s drawn in box 5 which makes things tricky, but with an ounce of luck heading into the first turn he should be able to go on with things from there.
He’s run a 29.03 over this course and distance and a time anywhere close to that here should see him winning.
Recommended Bet: Bewildering to WIN at $2.30.
Melbourne Cup Heat 3
Kelvyn Greenough trained youngster who boasts an impressive 29.26 personal best over this course and distance.
If she finds that form here she’ll be able to find the lead early and should control the race from there.
Both the 1 & 6 have ability and should test her, but her speed out of the boxes should prove far too classy for this field.
Recommended Bet: Zara’s Entity to WIN at $2.50.
Melbourne Cup Heat 4
Golden Easter Egg winner who from box 2 should ping the lids and fly out to lead this field.
Early in her career she ran a 4.92 first sectional time over this course and distance and if she find that form here she’ll take running down.
Her last two runs have only been fair in Group 1 company, but dropping back in grade here we should see a different Striker Light to that of her last two starts.
Recommended Bet: Striker Light to WIN at $3.70.
Melbourne Cup Heat 5
Arguably the best chaser in the land, who with a clear beginning should put this field away.
He’s explosive out of the boxes and with a slow beginner on either side of him he should get clear running heading into the first turn.
The Wolf is supremely confident that he is the pick from the Thompson Kennel, and he expects Aston Dee Bee will be winning his way into the 2017 Melbourne Cup Final.
Recommended Bet: Aston Dee Bee to WIN at $1.70.
Melbourne Cup Heat 6
Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner who returns here in the hope of becoming the first greyhound to win back to back Melbourne Cups.
He’s drawn well for his title defence and his 29.29 run two starts ago read very well for this.
He ran a 5.01 first section that time and if he repeats that here off the red he’ll be leading them into the first turn.
Up Hill Jill can fly out of the boxes also and should test Ando’s Mac, but with the rails run The Wolf expects he’ll be able to keep her to the outside of him.
Recommended Bet: Ando’s Mac to WIN at $2.60.
Melbourne Cup Heat 7
Flying beginner whose last two wins here have been top notch running times of 29.38 & 29.40.
He flew out to lead at each start; running a 5.09 first section or better each time.
He’ll do the same again here and whilst there is pace on the inside of him, he should be able to cross and if he can do that cleanly he’ll take running down.
Recommended Bet: Shadale to WIN at $3.60.
Melbourne Cup Heat 8
Flying 29.42 winner two starts back over this course and distance who from the draw; could prove tough to run down.
Two starts ago when he won he posted a 5.02 first sectional time, and if can repeat that here he should be leading into the first turn.
Big Flood is the main danger; but he’s a risky beginner and from box 6 he can’t afford to miss the kick.
Recommended Bet: Aston Miley to WIN at $5.00.
Melbourne Cup All-In Bets
Drawn to get the gun run and from box 3 and he should be putting away this field to make the 2017 Melbourne Cup Final. If he is to make the final and draw well, he could open up a $3 favourite, so The Wolf is confident that the $10 on offer here represents great value.
A winner of 5/7 who should fly out of the boxes to lead in his heat. He’s still learning and has the capacity to improve, but his speed out of the boxes must be respected and if he makes the final and draws well he’ll be a lot shorter than $31.
Prices correct as of 3:00pm AEDT Wednesday November 15, 2017.
