Tour de France: Green Jersey Preview

Tour de France betting odds

Peter Sagan ($1.60)
Last year’s rules changes had absolutely no effect on the legend that is Peter Sagan as he held the green jersey for 11 of the 21 stages of the 2015 race.  The World Champion has looked strong all season and he’ll be looking to add to his 4 stage wins (none for the past 2 years), along with the Green jersey this time around.  The Wolf sees no reason why he won’t be popping a wheelie across the finish line in Green this year for the 5th consecutive year

Marcel Kittel ($5.50)
The big German heads into the race with a remarkable statistic of winning the first sprint stage of every Grand Tour he has started.  With 10 race wins so far this season, the fastest sprinter on tour is primed to challenge Sagan for the green jersey.  4 flat stages to start the Tour and the best lead out in the business can only help with that challenge

Andre Greipel ($9.00)
‘The Gorilla’ finished runner up to Sagan last year and took home 4 stage victories along the way.  He’ll be full of confidence going into the race, as he looked pretty much unbeatable in the Giro, winning 3 stages.  The mountains are a concern but if he can survive then he has a chance to grab the Maillot Vert for the first time

Mark Cavendish ($21)
The Manx missile will be desperate to atone for a poor race last year where he only won 1 stage.  He has moved to Dimension data, a team that will be geared towards stage victories and Cav will be looking to add to his impressive 26 stage victories. He hasn’t shown the pace of old and Kittel is the man to beat in sprint finishes, however Cavendish has the experience and knowhow and should be challenging for the green jersey if he decides to complete the race
