Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars: Tuesday 7:40pm AEDT at the SCG
The last match for the Sydney Sixers will be against the Melbourne Stars and even though this contest does not hold any significance for the tournament as a whole, fans of both teams will still want a strong finish from their side.
|Sixers v Stars||Recommended Bets|
|Winner||Sydney Sixers WIN ($1.57)|
|Top Sixers Batsman||Joe Denly ($4.40)|
|Top Stars Batsman||Peter Handscomb ($5.00)|
|Top Sixers Bowler||Nathan Lyon ($3.70)|
|Top Stars Bowler||John Hastings ($5.00)|
The Sydney Sixers have won their last three matches and have an excellent chance of finishing 6th in the league standings by winning this last match. This is not something that seemed like a real possibility just a week or so back but the return of some key players has boosted the Sixers tremendously.
Runs from Daniel Hughes, Nic Maddinson, and Joe Denly have been very welcome, while Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk continue to provide depth to the batting order. Similarly, Australia’s number one spinner, Nathan Lyon, has made an instant impact on the Sixers and will be very crucial in this game as well. There is a small possibility of Lyon being drafted into the ODI team as an emergency measure but that is not something that the Wolf can predict at the moment.
The Sixers dominated the Melbourne Stars the last time they saw them and will be confident of repeating the same in this match.
The Melbourne Stars have now lost 7 out of the 8 matches that they have played and it really looks like all their players just want this tournament to end. It is hard to find any positive aspects in this team that seems to have given up as a unit.
Luke Wright ended his time with the Stars, Pietersen has already announced that he is not going to return next season, and the remaining players are also playing for their potential future in this side.
The Wolf likes how Peter Handscomb has responded to being pushed up the order and is sure that he will continue to bat in that position for the last two matches as well. Glenn Maxwell is another player that will be under the spotlight as the Australian team flounders and looks for some batsmen that can move the game quickly.
The real problem for the Stars this season has been the lack of success by their bowlers. The most successful teams this season have built their squads around the bowlers but the Melbourne Stars have had very little success with their bowling unit. No bowler has taken more than 6 wickets for them this season and none of them stand out as being particularly difficult to score off either.
Head to Head
The most recent victory of the Sydney Sixers improved their head to head against the Stars but the Melbourne Stars still hold a 4-3 advantage overall. The last two games have been won by the Sydney Sixers and even though the Stars have won two of the three games played at the SCG, they will go into this game as the clear underdogs.
The Wolf thinks there is very little to suggest that the Melbourne Stars will do anything to end their season in a strong manner. The momentum is very much with the Sydney Sixers and the Wolf recommends sticking with them for this match as well.
Top Batsman Sydney Sixers
Joe Denly has had an excellent few matches in the BBL and the Wolf has no doubt that he will be back for a longer stint in the coming years. He has 73 runs to his name from three innings, including a best score of 43 and one not out. He is a good player to back against the mediocre Stars bowling.
Top Batsman Melbourne Stars
Peter Handscomb has done well at the top of the order and now has 121 runs to his name in this tournament. The Wolf is surprised that he is still available for quite a decent price and thinks this could be a good opportunity to make some money. Handscomb is on the fringes of the Australian team and will be motivated to play a big innings to put his name into the selection mix going forward.
Top Bowler Sydney Sixers
Nathan Lyon is proving to the world the glaring folly of omitting him from the ODI team by bowling brilliantly in the BBL. He now has 6 wickets from three matches at an economy rate of 4.91. He is the clear favorite for this bet and there is an excellent reason for him to do so. The Wolf thinks his dream summer is going to continue.
Top Bowlers Melbourne Stars
John Hastings would not have believed that his season as captain would end up being this disastrous. His own form has been patchy as well but at least he is the current highest wicket-taker for the Melbourne Stars. He has 6 wickets to his name at a relatively high economy rate of 8.81 but his price is slightly more attractive than the other bowlers.
