The Wolf’s profiles every runner in the 2015 William Hill Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.
The Buff loves the Valley – winning five from 10. He won the Moir first-up, and that race has provided the past two winners of the Manikato. He’s such a bulldog and makes his own luck up on the speed. Easy to forget that he won the Manikato back in 2013. Rich Enuff and Srikandi will push forward too but he shouldn’t get too much pressure up in front. In it up to his eyeballs again.
There were a few nervous moments for punters that took the shorts in the Gilgai – but he was a soft winner when he finally saw daylight. Reckon punters will have to sweat again here too. Barrier 2 is very sticky and he’ll need plenty of luck. We saw what happened in last year’s Manikato with five or six hard luck stories. If the breaks go his way, he’ll be in the finish. But at $2.10, willing to gamble against him.
Will be wiser for the MV run last year in this race. He peaked noticeably on his run first-up and will improve here. Hugh Bowman off but James McDonald on so shouldn’t lose too much there. Barrier 1 is beautiful as he should get the run of the race.
Rebel Dane ($12)
Going well after his throat operation. His record at MV doesn’t really do him justice with a number of close finishes and poor luck dogging him. It’s safe to say he is a wrung below the likes of Buffering/Terra/Chatuaquas in the sprinting pecking order though.
Tiger Tees ($61)
Needs the heavens to open to figure in a race this deep.
Fast N Rocking ($21)
Was a strong winner at Caulfield but this is much, much deeper. Doesn’t win out of turn but in his defence, he rarely disgraces himself. Will be finishing off.
Rich Enuff ($21)
Bit of a D-Day for this entire. If he runs as poorly as he did in the Rupert Clarke, he might find his racing days numbered. Tacitics interesting. Suspect they’ll try to sit in behind Buffering.
Brilliant mare. Her QLD form through the likes of Ball Of Muscle, Boban and Lumosty has all been franked. Drawn barrier 10 but if Rich Enuff ridden with cover, she should get on the shoulder of Buffering. She’s got excellent gate speed too. Tipping this race will be on-speed dominated so don’t be surprised if she’s fighting out the finish.
Outsider of the field but she’s absolutely flying. Ripped home in the Moir – running the fastest late sectionals. Back out to 1200m suits and she finally draws a gate. Knockout player and the $41 crazy. The Wolf will be having a good bet on her to run a place at near double figure odds.
Alpha Miss ($12)
Was a strong winner on debut for her new stable but she beat Cashed and a legless Lankan Rupee. Would really need to bounce off that to figure in this. Looks under the odds.
