NBA Tips: Warriors @ Rockets (Game 2)

The Rockets were blown off the court in the second half of Game 1 and will need to do something dramatic to even up the series. They went down by double digits at home despite Harden dropping 41 points and will have to find a way to stop Kevin Durant.

West Finals Game 2: Golden State @ Houston (Thur 11:05am)

“Main concern for the Rockets is the fact that they have lacked ball movement” – they were The Wolf’s words heading into Game 1. His words were echoed from the opening minutes with Harden dribbling at the top of the key in isolation, letting the clock run down to under 5 seconds and taking several step back 3’s. He may have made them early but it would have an adverse affect on the team.

Team-mates were flat on their heels on the wings throughout the contest and it allowed the Warriors to get a lot of rest on defence – especially Durant! The Rockets managed just 18 assists as a team in Game 1 and allowed the Warriors to shoot over 52% from the floor. The concerns do not end there. Curry had just 18 points while Draymond Green finished with a game high +19 in the plus/minus column despite adding just 5 points.

Houston… we have a problem!

The Rockets need to improve on the defensive end. They were -15 in fastbreak points and will need to force more than the 9 turnovers that they forced in Game 1. The Under is 7-1 in the Rockets last 8 following a ATS loss and 9-2 in their last 11 when conceding 100 or more in their previous game. It is also 15-6 in their last 21 to go with a 8-3 Under record in their last 11 meetings with the Warriors. It doesn’t stop there for the Unders. Under is 4-0 in Warriors last 4 road games and 6-1 in their last 7 trips to the Toyota Center. The Wolf pushed us into the Warriors in the series opener and is shifting to the Under in Game 2.

In terms of player props….

Wolfy cannot see much changing. Both sides will again use a limited rotation and that means huge minutes for the starters. The Rockets have even more limitations when it comes to matchups and that means that Durant will again run riot. There is no-one will the length or size on the Rockets roster to matchup with him and the reality is that coach D’Antoni will have to choose his poison. CP3 can match up with Curry and the last thing they want is the two time MVP to get going from beyond the arc. They have to continue to make Klay work on the defensive end against Harden and they are more than happy to have Draymond or Iguodala take shots from beyond the arc. That leaves Durant free to do as he pleases. Lock him in for 30+!!!
