West Finals Game 1: Golden State @ Houston (Tue 11:05am)

It’s the ‘finals before the finals’ and The Wolf is hoping that we can finally get a series to go at least 6 games. This has the makings of an epic but The Wolf firmly believes that the Warriors are ready to flick the switch!

Both teams have won their opening two playoff series 4-1 and have shown great versatility along the way. They have been the two best offensive teams all season long but it is defence which has seen them dominate in the payoffs. They ranked 1st and 2nd in both points per game and offensive efficiency but The Wolf says that it has created a false perception in their matchups. The Under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and 5-1 in the last 6 clashes in Houston.

Houston won the season series 2-1 with the Warriors blowing a 17 point lead in one of those fixtures. That being said, the Warriors are 11-5 in the last 16 meetings which includes a 4-1 ATS record in the last 5 meetings in Houston. The Rockets set the league on fire during the regular season but The Wolf loves the fact that the Warriors have preserved themselves for the playoffs.

The Warriors have forever been considered to be a 3-point shooting team but that could not be further from the truth during these playoffs. The Rockets rank first with almost 40 attempts per game  while the Warriors are down in 6th – attempting under 30 threes per game. The Wolf’s main concern for the Rockets is the fact that they have lacked the ball movement that was so prominent during the regular season. They have managed just 20.6 assists in the playoffs compared to the Warriors 28.8. The assist number of Harden and CP3 are well down on the regular season and the Rockets have become more of an isolation team – very concerning.

Matchups! The Warriors have the personnel to counter the Rockets strengths. Klay Thompson does as good a job as anyone in the league agaisnt James Harden while Steph Curry has completely owned CP3 in the past. Moreover, Draymond Green has proved to be a nightmare for Capela and we are yet to touch on Durant. Draymond averaged 16 points, almost 11 board and 9.7 assists against the Rockets in the regular season and has been dominant throughout the playoffs. The Wolf says he will have a huge series and will post multiple triple/doubles.

The Rockets are not proven at this level and The Wolf believes that it will cost them down the stretch. In the few games they have been behind in, they have consistently tried to rely on the 3-ball and The Wolf cannot have any of that during the playoffs. Warriors in 6!
