Western Conference Finals Game 3
1. Golden State @ San Antonio (11:05am)
The NBA Playoffs became an unofficial disgrace yesterday as the Cavs beat the one seeded Celtics by 44 points on their own floor. It followed the Warriors 36 point win in Game 2 of the West Finals and there really can be no denying either side at the moment. The Spurs may have lost a leg when Kawhi get down but there has been irretrievable damage done since to his team-mates, meaning even is return will not save them.
Golden State have won all 6 quarters since Leonard’s injury and have been unstoppable on offence posting 30+ points in each of them. The extended time for the second unit has seen Livingston, Clark, McCaw and West all get going. The Warriors shot 49% from beyond the arc in Game 2 and the Spurs are flirting with danger when they allow such numbers. Most concerning to coach Pop was the lack of energy and effort. Outside of Jonathon Simmons they were a shadow of the side that beat the Rockets with Kawhi on the sidelines.
The Wolf says the Cavs result yesterday will have a direct impact on this game. The mental battle between the two sides has already started and they are taking it out on their opponents. The Warriors are 9-0 ATS in their last 9 road games and 13-5-1 in their last 19 against Western Conference opponents. San Antonio’s big men have been rendered irrelevant with Aldridge scared to shoot and Gasol no longer having the ability to run the floor. The Wolf is shocked that San Antonio has not been able to slow the pace of the game and if they cannot do so they really don’t stand a chance. The Spurs are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 when coming off a double digit loss and they are statistics that are hard to ignore. Kawhi or no Kawhi the Warriors will be rampant.
