NBA Tips – 9th January

It’s been a rough couple of days for Wolfy but by no means is he throwing the towel in. With 8 games coming up we won’t have to wait long for the bounce-back.

NBA Feature Previews

1. Milwaukee @ Indiana (11:05am)

The Pacers run of 5 losses came to an end with the return of Oladipo to the court. In just 24 minutes he had 23 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals – shooting 9 of 11 from the field. It was a complete performance and one that we are used to seeing from one of his counterparts today – Giannis! He continues to fill up every stat category and has led the way in a 6 game stretch that includes 4 wins and two losses (both to the Raptors). The Wolf says he is set to have a field day against the Pacers who rank 26th in points allowed in the paint. It is an area in which the Bucks dominate thanks to Giannis who leads the league with 17.76ppg in the paint alone. He is also 2nd in the NBA in terms of fastbreak points per game – another area in which the Pacers lack defensively (26th in defensive fastbreak efficiency). The Bucks are 4-1 both straight up and ATS in the last 5 meetings and an impressive 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 road games against teams with a winning record. The Bucks will continue to improve their road record in the coming weeks.

Tip: Milwaukee WIN ($2.05)

2. Houston@ Chicago (12:05pm)

At one stage we were talking about the Rockets finishing the regular season with the best record in the NBA but that will not be happening. They have now lost 7 of their last 9 and are 1-8 ATS in that stretch. It’s easy to say that it’s a ‘make or miss league’ but bad shot attempts lead to misses. The Rockets offence has looked both rushed and disjointed down the stretch as they constantly turn to the 3-pointer to get them out of trouble. Consequently The Wolf is surprised to see the Bulls getting this big a start at home. They are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games at home and 15-5-1 in their last 21 overall. The Bulls do well to keep their opponents off the free throw line and with Harden still out The Wolf cannot see them getting more than 10-5 attempts from the stripe here. That will put even more pressure on them to shoot the 3-ball well – something that teams have not done well in Chicago. The Bulls are holding their opponents to just 34% from beyond the arc at the United Center – 2nd best for teams at home. Bulls at the line and outright.

Tip: Chicago +5 ($1.92)

3. Atlanta @ LA Clippers (2:35pm)

It must have been party time for the Hawks in LA as they failed to turn up – allowing the Lakers to put up 132 points after having lost 9 in a row. The Hawks have now lost their last 9 road games – allowing 113ppg in that stretch. If there is one thing that the Clippers will do, it is test their defence. The Clippers pace of play continues to get faster and they rank 4th in possessions per game over the last 3 games. They now rank in the top 10 for points per game at home with the Over going 7-1 in their last 8. Lou Williams has a licence to shoot off the bench and has exploded, adding in excess of 25ppg since December. He has 30+ in 4 of his last 8 and The Wolf can see him adding that plus more against a lackluster Hawks defence. Overs.

Tip: Over 212.5 points ($1.91)
