NBA Tips – 5th May

The Warriors take a commanding lead with them to New Orleans while the Jazz could take an unexpected series lead if they can make full use of home court!

NBA Playoffs Previews

1. Golden State @ New Orleans (Sat 10:05am)
Someone forgot to tell Steph Curry that he hadn’t played for 6 weeks… the two time MVP scored 28 points in just 27 minutes off the bench included 5 3-pointers. His pace of play at the point position completely changes the dynamic of the Warriors. They have acres of space and the non-stop ball movement leads to open shots and an incredible amount of layups. Unfortunately for the Pelicans the only solution is to go toe-to-toe with them. Over is 25-9 in Pelicans last 34 home games and 4-1 in their last 5 at home to the Warriors. The two sides combined for 196 shot attempts in Game 1 and we will continue to see them jack it up with more than 15 seconds remaining on the shot clock. The scary part for the Pelicans is that they matched the Warriors from beyond the arc with 13 made 3’s a piece. Curry will be injected back into the starting lineup and that means even more pace and space for the Warriors. The Wolf cannot see the Pelicans shutting down the the defending champs and that makes the Warriors the bet of the weekend. With the Jazz getting a split against the Rockets we will see the Warriors push for a sweep! Draymond Green has been the dominant player thus far in the series and will continue to have a field day. He was one rebound shy of registering back to back triple/double’s and will go very close again in Game 3.
Best: Golden State -4 ($1.92)
Value: Over 249.5 points ($5.40)
Prop: Draymond Green Triple/Double ($6.00)

2. Houston @ Utah (Sat 12:35pm)
The Jazz did more than just keep it close in Game 2. Despite star rookie Donovan Mitchell spending the majority of the game in foul trouble, the Jazz stunned the Rockets and earned themselves a split! It was Aussie Joe Ingles who led the scoring for the Jazz with 27 points on the back of 7 bombs from beyond the arc. The Wolf has had concerns about just what the Rockets will do down the stretch in close games. Game 2 revealed that some things will not change. They will live and die by the 3-ball. They turned down layups on multiple occasions – instead opting for a 3-pointer and they couldn’t buy one. The Jazz did a good job restricting them to 37 attempts from beyond the arc compared to the 50+ we have seen as of late. The Rockets genuinely have their work cut out for them in this series. They are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 against West opponents. The Jazz continue to play a fantastic brand of ‘team’ basketball and it has led to some very efficient offence. The Over is 9-2 in their last 11 against teams with a winning record and 5-2 in their last 7 games in Salt Lake City. Surprisingly, it is also 7-2 in their last 9 against the Rockets. After dropping 116 on them in Houston, The Wolf is adamant they will again post 110+ at home. It makes the Overs and Utah at the line great bets. In the player props we will be backing Joe ‘Jingles’ Ingles. He has made 4 or more 3-pointers in 4 of his last 6 and is equal with Harden for the most 3-pointers made in the playoffs (29), despite having 17 less attempts. He is shooting over 50% from beyond the arc in the postseason and will continue to fire!
Best: Over 208.5 points ($1.91)
Value: Utah +5.5 & Over 219.5 ($6.00)
Prop: Joe Ingles 4+ made 3-points FG ($2.25)
