Just two games to speak of today but we get two scintillating matchups. The top two records in the West face off in Houston with the Rockets hosting the Warriors while the Thunder remain in LA to take on the Clippers following a big win over the Lakers.
NBA Feature Previews
1. Golden State @ Houston (12:05pm)
The Warriors needed 107 points from their starters to get by the Mavs yesterday while the Rockets won by 18 in Orlando in their first game without James Harden. This was supposed to be a preview of the Conference Finals but with ‘The Beard’ sitting on the sideline we will not be able to use it as a gauge come finals time. Nevertheless we are in for a real show! They are the top two sides in terms of points per game, offensive efficiency and average scoring margin. The Warriors blew a 17 point lead when they last met on opening night and it will not have sat well with them. They are 5-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Houston and have consistently turned it on when on the road against the top teams. They are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 against teams that win in excess of 60% of their home games and are 30-7 over the last two years when on a back to back. The Rockets on the other hand are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 when on 0 days rest and the Warriors will pose a completely different threat to the Magic. Orlando shot just 38% from the floor and 19% from beyond the arc. The Wolf says they are not ready for the freight train that is the Warriors and without Harden they will lack that instant offence.
2. Oklahoma City @ LA Clippers (2:35pm)
To begin with the back to back stats with the Thunder big 4 sitting out virtually the entire 4th quarter in a blowout win over the Lakers yesterday. It was a non contest with the Lakers playing no defence whatsoever. Westbrook and co were able to drive and get layups at with, something we are unlikely to see as often with Jordan and Griffin in the paint. The Clippers have revived their season with 6 wins in their last 7 and the only way is up with Griffin back on board. He has averaged 23/7/7 in his last 3 and has been ultra efficient in all facets of the game. Clippers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 at home while the Thunder are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 against teams with a losing record. More importantly the Over is 5-0 in Clippers last 5 against West teams and are averaging 115.7ppg in their last 8. The Thunder have also added pace to their game after being one of the slowest teams in the NBA to start the season putting up close to 115ppg in their last 8. Both teams will put up a number in this one. Overs!
