NBA Tips – 4th May

The Cavs and Celtics scored upset wins in their respective Game 1’s but The Wolf says the Raptors and 76ers will be ready on Game 2!

NBA Playoffs Previews

1. Cleveland @ Toronto (Fri 8:05am)
LeBron finally got some help and it resulted in a huge come from behind win – IN TORONTO! JR Smith (20), Korver (19), Green (16) and Tristan Thompson (14) all contributed but The Wolf is putting this one on the Raptors. They were held to just 45 points in the second half after posting 60 in the opening stanza. They allowed the Cavs to slow the game down – turning what was open looks into contested 3’s. There is definitely a sense of fear and intimidation from the Raptors when they face the Cavs. The way to overcome it… play at a breakneck speed and have your stars (DeRozan and Lowry) lead from the front. The Over improved to 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Toronto and is 7-1 in the Raptors last 8 conference semi final games. DeRozan has averaged 33.5 points in his last two games following a Raptors loss and The Wolf is expecting a huge response from him. Meanwhile, LeBron will again look to get his team-mates going so look for him to again post in excess of 10 assists.
Best: Over 212.5 points ($1.91)
Value: Toronto -5.5 & Over 219.5 ($4.80)
Prop: DeMar DeRozan 25+ points ($1.80)

2. Philadelphia @ Boston (Fri 10:35am)
The 76ers were hit by a truck in Game 1 and it was a lesson that needed to be learned. You can’t roll up to the TD Garden and think that a Celtics team coached by Brad Stevens is going to roll over! The Celtics have overcome adversity from day 1 of the season when Gordon Hayward went down. We saw how they dealt with that and have gone a step further in recent times – dealing with the season ending injury to their best player, Kyrie Irving. Joel Embiid was the first to put his hand up and say that he needed to lock in defensively, saying ‘rust’ was not a valid excuse. They shot 5 of 26 from beyond the arc (19.2%) while the Celtics made 17 3-pointers. That is +36 for Boston from beyond the arc and one could never have predicted that. If Philly are legit, they should win this by double digits. The Wolf is not ready to back-flip in his prediction that they will win the East and is consequently ready to push all the chips in on the 76ers. They will ruin even more offence through Embiid who is a nightmare matchup for the Celtics. He was hitting them from everywhere in Game 1 and Wolfy is expecting him to again tally up the boards and assists. The Celtics will double him which will lead to open looks for team-mates and will rarely contest offensive boards as they will want to get back on defence. In Game two we will ‘Trust The Process’.
Best: Philadelphia -4.5 ($1.92)
Value: Philadelphia -10.5 & Over 219.5 ($13.50)
Prop: Multi – Embiid 25+ points/12+ rebounds ($5.28)
