The Wolf likes several road teams with the start today. That means upsets and that is music to the ears of The Wolfpack!
1. Denver @ Detroit (11:05am)
The Nuggets continue to be one of the most inconsistent teams in the NBA. Despite being without Millsap and Jokic they led by 8 in Indiana with 1:30 left in the 4th. What happened next was nothing short of a capitulation as they scored just two points over the next 6:30 as they lost by 10 in OT. The Pistons will not get a better chance to end their 6 game losing streak. On paper it sounds like they are in a slump but all of those opponents have winning records including the Spurs, Warriors and Celtics. The Nuggets are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 against teams with a winning record while the Pistons are 16-4-1 ATS in their last 21 against West teams. The Pistons to get back in the win column with a big win.
2. LA Lakers @ New York (11:05am)
If the Lakers can perform as they have on their current road trip then they are every chance of being a playoff team. Brandon Ingram has taken his game to another level and the second unit is one of the best in the NBA. The Lakers rank 3rd in bench points (41.9ppg) and 9th in scoring margin at +8.3. The Wolf says it will be the key against the Knicks who are not as prolific when Porzingis is sitting. The Lakers have won 4 of their last 6 games when on 2 days rest and it is the type of spot where The Wolf is happy backing young teams. Big Apple, Madison Square Garden, bright lights… Ingram, Randle and Clarkson all had double digit games in the Lakers last visit to The Garden – a 14 point win. The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 of this series and The Wolf will be backing the Lakers for the outright win.
3. Phoenix @ Sacramento (2:05pm)
Devin Booker is set ti miss the next 2-3 weeks and the effect is there to be seen. They are averaging 100ppg since he went down compared to 107.1ppg with him in the line up. It is a small sample size but The Wolf expects them to struggle on offence – especially in the 4th quarter. Mike James really stepped up in his absence while TJ Warren looks set to shoulder more workload as the primary scoring option. Seeing the Kings as almost a 5 point fav is unheard of and The Wolf does not want a piece of them at the price. Phoenix have caused their fair share of upsets on the road and in fact have a better road record than they do at home. They are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games while the Kings are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 against teams with a win % below .400. The Wolf cannot see either team breaking 100 points and is surprised to see it set at almost 210. Under is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings and with one of the leading scorers in the NBA not taking part we have to be on he Unders.
