The World Series is here and the Wolf is looking forward to a great series between the LA Dodgers and Houston Astros. The home side is 23-8 in the 2017 playoffs and the Dodgers start as the home favourites in game 1. The Wolf previews game 1 below and provides his best bets.
Houston Astros at Los Angeles Dodgers (11:00am)
The World Series begins on Wednesday morning and will start in Los Angeles. The Dodgers defeated the Cubs in just 5 games to reach the finale and they’re massive favourites in the betting for game 1. Clayton Kershaw will get the ball in game 1 and he’ll look to continue his postseason form. He pitched twice against the Cubs and went 11 innings, allowing just 7 hits. The Dodgers are 3-0 in his 3 starts this postseason so they deserve favouritism. But he does have trouble with home runs having allowed 6 in his last 17.1 innings. Jose Altuve will be the danger against the long ball as he homered in game 6 and game 7 against the Yankees. For the Astros, they’re coming off a tough 7 game series against the Yankees. They won in 7 games and secured the series with two home wins in a row. Overall they went 4-0 at home. However, they did lose 3 games on the road and the Dodgers will be a tough challenge on the road. They’ll go with Dallas Keuchel in game 1 and he’ll be looking to respond from a less then stellar start last time out. Against the Yankees, the Astros lost 5-0 and Keuchel gave up 7 hits/4 runs in 4.2 innings. So he’ll need to contain the Dodgers lineup in game 1 for the Astros to be any chance. In terms of head to head meetings, the two sides haven’t played against each other since August 2015. The Astros did sweep the Dodgers in the last series, but that was in Houston. Since 2011, the Dodgers are 3-1 against the Astros at home. The Wolf has looked at the pitching matchup in game 1 and he’ll find it hard to see the Dodgers dropping game 1. They have a 61-24 record at home this season and they’re 37-15 against left handers. They’re also 4-0 ATS at home in the playoffs and 8-0 ATS overall in their last 8 home games. In the ALCS and NLCS combined, the home side went 10-2 so the home team is ruling in the playoffs. The Astros are 24-25 against lefties and the Wolf can’t see them beating Kershaw on the road. So the Wolf will be backing the Dodgers to cover the line. For a side bet, the over total of 7 runs is also a good value bet as both sides are in good form at the plate.
