MLB Tips – 8th September

The Wolf is looking to bounce back and is going value hunting with his Thursday MLB Tips.

Boston Red Sox at SD Padres

Tip: Red Sox WIN ($1.48)

Boston and San Diego have split the opening two games of this interleague series after the Padres took the opener on Monday and Boston hit back to take game two. For the series finale the Red Sox will send their ace David Price (14-8, 3.92 ERA) to the mound in an attempt to wrap up the series and record their 78th win for the season. Price has been on fire in recent starts with Boston winning his last five outings while keeping opposing batters to a .197 average. Getting the start for San Diego is Jarred Cosart (0-2, 5.14 ERA) who is a much better pitcher at home but that won’t count for much if the Padres continue their home slump, going 1-4 in their last 5 at home. These two teams are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to interleague play, Boston registering a 4-1 record in their last 5 interleague games while the Padres at 1-4 in their last 5. Multiple factors point to an easy win here for Boston and if you’re already on board with the win, look for a bit more at the run line.

Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners

Tip: Over 8.5 runs ($1.83)

These two ball clubs have combined for 37 runs in the two games they’ve played in this series, putting on 20 runs in game one and 17 in game two. Will we really see A.J Griffin (7-3, 4.41 ERA) and Ariel Miranda (2-1, 5.76 ERA) slow that run rate down? The Wolf highly doubts it. The over is now 13-3 in the last 16 meetings overall between these two and it’s 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Seattle. The list of over trends is incredible for these two clubs in recent weeks, the Rangers going 13-3-1 in their last 17 overall and the Mariners are 7-1 in their last 8 overall. That is a lot of runs being scored in games that involve these two clubs. There is also the over trends on the starters with the over 4-1 in Griffins last 5 starts vs AL West opponents and the over is 4-0 in Miranda’s last 4 starts overall. The magic number is set at 8.5 but you could probably double it and we’d still get there. If you want to go crazy, take both teams to go over their run totals.
