MLB Tips – 8th August

An 8-5 record on Sunday that included the best bet getting the cash. Let’s hope for a good monday

Texas Rangers at Houston Astros (4:10am)

Tip: Rangers WIN ($1.90)

Texas was the most active team at the trade deadline, bring in the parts they thought necessary to help them keep the Astros at bay in the AL West chase. Two of those moves, Carlos Beltran and Jonathon Lucroy are swinging the bat very well and will look to carry their form in to game three of this series. The Rangers won game two behind a Lucroy solo shot in the eighth inning, eventually winning 3-2. The victory extended their lead over the Astros to 6 ½ games and evened up their road record for the season at 30-30. Meanwhile the Astros are struggling, losing nine of their last 12 which has allowed the Rangers to skip away. Yu Darvish (2-3, 3.29 ERA) gets the nod for the Rangers while Joe Musgrove will make his MLB starting debut. Darvish is striking out batters for fun at the moment, knocking over 35 in 22.2 innings but is 0-3 in that period. He’s allowed three runs or fewer in his four starts since his return from the DL and that is very likely to continue here. Look at the Rangers over total as well.

Boston Red Sox at LA Dodgers (9:10am)

Tip: First 5 innings Boston ($1.85)

These two teams have traded shutouts over the weekend with Boston winning 9-0 in game one behind a stellar Wright effort and then LA winning game two 3-0. This is the last game on an 11 game road trip for Boston and if they can manage to get the job done they will finish with a winning record for the trip. Both clubs are fighting to finish 1st in their respective divisions with Boston tagging along with Baltimore and Toronto while LA are fighting with the Giants. Former Cy Young winner David Price (9-7, 4.30 ERA) has been better than his record shows recently. He threw seven scoreless innings in Seattle before giving up four runs in the eighth. Before that he put up right scoreless innings against the Angels before Boston eventually lost 2-1. Brandon McCarthy (2-2, 2.76 ERA) is starting in place for Rich Hill after he succumbed to a blister on his pitching hand. McCarthy is winless in his last two efforts and there’s every chance he goes without the win in this one too. Given Price has been stellar through the first seven innings in recent games there won’t be much on offer for LA early and tipping the Red Sox get the jump.
