MLB Tips – 7th July

Bumgarner did his bit for the Giants yesterday but after setting up a 2-0 lead through 6 innings the bullpen failed to do it’s bit. As a result Bumgarner doesn’t  get a ‘L’ in the loss column but The Wolf does – and he’s not happy. With very few clear favourties in Thursday’s matches there is plenty of value to be had and The Wolf says he has found it.

KC Royals at Toronto Blue Jays (9:05am) (Best)

Tip: Blue Jays WIN ($1.58)

Toronto are charging towards the division leading Orioles on the back of their batting at the moment. They will be looking to post their fifth straight victory on Thursday and sweep the defending champs at home, a rematch from last year’s ALCS. They are scoring an average of 10 runs in their last four games and against Ian Kennedy (6-7, 4.04 ERA) who has a poor record against Toronto, we could see them reach 10 again. Factor in that Kennedy is a poor 3-6 with a 5.37 ERA on the road this season and it looks like another long day for the Royals. The Royals will be sending four players to the All Star game but their recent performances have seen them slide down the AL Central, losing nine of their last 14. Toronto will send Marcus Stroman (6-4, 5.08 ERA) to the mound and he will be looking to follow up his last start effort against the Indians with another strong performance. He has battled inconsistency at stages but the signs were good against the Indians. Toronto should sweep this series and if you’re looking for value, chase the team total over on Toronto and the -1.5 handicap.

NY Yankees at Chicago White Sox (10:10am)

Tip: Yankees WIN ($1.71)

This Yankees will carry momentum in to the third game of this series after putting up 20 hits and scoring nine runs in a 9-0 victory Wednesday. New York had seven players with multiple hits on the night as the Sox pitchers just appeared to have no answers. It’s quite an impressive turnaround given they were 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position in game one. The White Sox slump is real and they look nothing like the team that started the season on fire to lead the AL. Michael Pineda (3-7, 5.24 ERA) will take on Miguel Gonzalez (1-4, 4.88 ERA) with neither pitcher instilling much confidence in their fans this season although Pineda has looked the better of the two recently. He managed to strike out 12 Rangers batters and allow only one run in his last start and prior to that he allowed just the single run from two hits against the Twins. Definitely signs of improvement there and that’s where the confidence comes from that the Yankees can get the business done here and claim the series against the White Sox.
