MLB Tips – 7th August

MLB betting odds multi

The Wolf just edged it on Saturday, with an 8-7 day. A few value bets got up though so it was certainly profitable. Looking towards a solid Sunday now.

Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates (9:05am)

Tip: Pirates WIN ($1.77)

Newlyacquired Ivan Nova (7-6, 4.90 ERA) will get his first opportunity to start in the NL after moving from the AL Yankees. In his last start with the Yanks he lasted just 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits that included two bombs. He’s now given up at least one home run in 14 of his last 15 efforts and struggled to reach at least six innings in most of those starts. Homer Bailey (1-0, 3.18 ERA) gets his second start after spending 14 months out following surgery and made a winning start in his return, shutting down San Diego. Lifetime he is 8-5 with a 3.28 ERA vs the Pirates. Pittsburgh snuck out of game one with the win after going deep in the ninth, winning 3-2 with the walkoff. The Pirates need to get on a roll after their recent road trip delivered a 1-5 record which isn’t good enough in a close NL. If Pittsburgh can pick up the win in game two, it will be the first series the Reds have lost since the All Star break.

SF Giants at Washington Nationals (9:05am)

Tip: Nationals -1.5 ($1.91)

San Francisco are struggling right now, going 5-14 since the break and 2-10 on the road in that span. They fell to Washington in the opening game of the series 5-1 and will send Matt Cain (3-6, 5.53 ERA) to the mound in attempt to get their season back on track and break out of the slump. Cain was a last start winner against the Nationals last weekend, but that was at home and this is in Washington which is an important note given Cain has not won on the road this season. The home side will have Stephen Strasburg (15-1, 2.63 ERA) on the mound as he attempts to be the first 16 game winner in the majors. He’s just been named NL pitcher of the month for July after allowing just one run or less in six of his seven July starts. Can anyone say ace? The Nats are 12-1 in Strasburgs last 13 starts in the second game of a series and 7-0 overall in game two of a series. Washington clearly enjoy the second matchup in a series and we’re going to back them to get this one with the handicap.
