MLB Tips – 5th August

Both of Thursday’s feature MLB previews saluted as The Wolf pushes on towards a Friday fill-up with tips in all 12 games.

Toronto Blue Jays at Houston Astros (10:10am)

Tip: Toronto WIN ($1.85)

Toronto hold a two games to one lead in the series and will look to stop Houston from levelling the series in game four Friday. They will look to J.A. Happ (14-3, 3.16 ERA) in an attempt to stretch their win streak to three games after winning games two and three. Happ has been excellent in his last two starts allowing four hits and a single run in 13 innings. Those two starts came against quality opposition in Baltimore and Seattle. Opposing him will be Mike Fiers (7-4, 4.42 ERA) who is coming off his own quality start against Detroit where he threw 6.1 scoreless innings and allowed just the four hits. The Astros are 1-5 in their last 6 overall but 5-0 in Friers last 5 home starts. Meanwhile the Blue Jays are 4-1 in Happs last 5 road starts and 10-1 in his last 11 on just 4 days’ rest. Toronto hold a 5-1 record in the last 6 between the sides and Happ is the much better pitcher. Toronto should be able to squeeze out the win here but it will be close as the under is 3-0 in this series, likely to go under again.

Oakland A’s at LA Angels (9:05am)

Tip: Angels over 4.5 ($2)

Albert Pujols played the hero Thursday, launching a two run home run in the bottom of the ninth for his 12th walk off HR of his career. Oakland had fought back from 6-4 down with a run in both the eighth and ninth innings but it wasn’t enough, falling 8-6 to the Pujols bomb. The Angels put up five runs in game one and 8 in game two courtesy of the long bomb, putting five over the fence in the two games. It continued a trend for LA home games with the over now 10-1 in the last 11 home game vs teams with a losing record and 6-0 between these two teams in the last 6 overall meetings. Jesse Hahn (2-4, 5.53 ERA) gets the ball for Oakland after 7.2 innings of one run ball in his last start against Tampa. This start followed two very poor starts, giving up 11 runs in just 4.1 innings. Ricky Nolasco (4-8, 5.12 ERA) makes his first start for the Angels after being acquired from the Twins at the deadline. He’s coming off an excellent start against the White Sox, giving up just the one run through 8 innings while striking out six. There will be runs here and the Angels line looks short.
