MLB Tips – 4th August

Despite the bullpens letting us down late in the feature previews we still managed to swing our way to a 9-6 record on Wednesday. The Wolf is due a double digit win day and he says that Thursday has 10+ win written all over it.

Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Indians (9:10am)

Tip: Over 9 runs

This series has been similar to watching an Oprah Winfrey show, just giving away runs like they are cars – you have a run and you have a run, hits and runs for all! There has been a total of 33 runs in just two games with Minnesota scoring 22 of them against two quality pitchers in the Indians rotation. The biggest problem the Indians have right now is rookie Max Kepler who has sent four balls over the fence in two games, three of those coming in game one alone. There is something about the Indians that the Twins really like and even though they are dead last in the AL, they are having no problem beating up the Indians pitching staff. Next in the firing line is Trevor Bauer (7-4, 3.63 ERA) who is winless in his last four efforts and struggling to keep the ball in the park giving up four home runs in two games. Minnesota will send out Tyler Duffy (5-8, 6.12 ERA) who has given up 11 runs in just 3.2 innings across his last two starts. This series is on track to eclipse 60 runs in the four games and we’re going to back it in that even more runs are piled on in game three.

Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers (9:10am)

Tip: Under 8.5 runs

After Wednesday’s 11-5 win the Tigers are now just three games behind first placed Cleveland who again stumbled against the Twins. They will now face Chris Sale (14-4, 3.17 ERA) who was scheduled to start against the Tigers the day he was suspended for cutting up the teams throwback jerseys. This will be his fourth attempt at getting win number 15 and a chance to bring the Tigers seven game win streak crashing down. He did face them back in June, throwing seven innings and allowing three runs en route to the win. Opposing him will be Michael Fulmer (9-2, 2.50 ERA) who has been excellent for the Tigers this year. He went nine starts where he allowed only the one home run and 10 straight starts giving up just two runs or fewer. He has hit a rough patch in his last two though, giving up five and then three runs. There were 16 runs scored Wednesday but with these two taking the mound Thursday the Wolf is expecting a lot less runs to be on offer. Also a fan of the total runs, hits and errors to land under the 27.5 total on offer.
