The MLB All-Star game is a fortnight away and The Wolf is expecting the action to heat up as players make one last push for a spot at the big dance in the nation’s capital.
Atlanta Braves at New York Yankees (9:05am)
The Yankees will be full of confidence after tearing apart the Red Sox in a 11-0 trashing on Monday. They now face the Atlanta Braves in a 3 game set. The two sides haven’t played against each other since 2015 and interestingly, the Yankees won 20-6 in the last meeting! Ok, it surely won’t be the same result this time, but this Yankee lineup is on fire. They nailed 5 home runs against David Price and will look to do the same against Anibal Sanchez. He’s coming off 2 straight losses and didn’t get past the 6th in both. While for the home side, Loaisiga gets the ball for his 4th start. So far, he has looked very solid in his rookie season. Last outing, he 1 hit the Phillies over 5.1 innings and has a 1.93 ERA in his first 3 overall starts. The Braves are coming off a 3 game road sweep of the Cardinals. But the Wolf believes Yankee Stadium will prove a tough ask. The home side has a dominant 31-12 record and they rank 3rd in the Majors for runs scored in home games. So in the end, the Wolf is getting on the Yankees for a 2+ run win here.
St. Louis Cardinals at Arizona D-backs (11:40am)
In this preview, the Wolf will be looking at the D-backs and the Cardinals at Chase Field on Tuesday. Both sides are coming into this one with losing streaks. The D-backs were swept by the Giants in 3 home games. The Cardinals have lost 4 in a row and were swept by the Braves in St. Louis. So both sides will be desperate to get back on the winners list. They have met this season and the D-Backs took a 3 game series 2-1, with 3 fairly close games. In this pitching matchup, the D-backs will put the ball in the right-hand of Robbie Ray (3-0, 4.01 ERA). He’s coming off a 2 hit, 6 inning outing against the Marlins. He also 2 hit the Cardinals in his 2018 start against them in St. Louis. So he should be even more confident in front of the home faithful. While for the Cardinals, Carlos Martinez heads to the hill. His ERA sits at 3.22 and his win-loss record is 4-4. He recorded a quality start against the Indians last start and holds a 2.53 ERA against the D-Backs since 2015. So the Wolf will be looking at the unders for value in this game. In all 3 games between the two sides this season, the total hasn’t gone over 8 runs. With this pitching matchup, the Wolf can’t see many runs getting scored in what should be a low scoring battle.
