MLB Tips – 31st August

There is hot, hotter, hottest and then there is The Wolf! He went 9-4 on Tuesday with both previews getting the cash. That makes it four straight days where both previews have cashed and extends his streak to 39-16 since Saturday. Get around him!

Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers (Best)

Tip: Rangers WIN ($1.65)

The Rangers are just about at that point where they can just about claim the AL West as won. They are now 8 1/2 games ahead of Houston and 9 1/2 ahead of their current series enemy the Seattle Mariners. Texas picked up a game one win with a score of 6-3 behind Yu Darvish and a quick 5-0 lead. Seattle are now 1-4 on their current seven game road trip and despite their poor form are still just two games back from Baltimore in the race for the second wild card spot. In an effort to close the gap, Seattle send James Paxton (4-5, 3.63 ERA) to the mound to face off against Texas ace Cole Hamels (14-4, 2.67 ERA). Hamels is 5-2 in eight career turns against the Mariners after brushing them aside back in June with the win, allowing just the one run and four hits through seven innings of work. Texas are 15-3 in his last 18 home starts while the Mariners are just 1-4 in Paxton’s last 5 road starts. It’s hard to see where the Mariners get any advantage here and tipping the Rangers to back up Hamels excellent pitching.

NY Yankees at KC Royals

Tip: Royals WIN ($2.08)

It’s taken 3/4 of the season but the 2015 world champs are finally up and about. They have put together a super impressive 18-4 run over their last 22 games and look to continue gaining ground on the Orioles for that second AL wild card spot when they take on the Yankees in game two Wednesday. The Royals picked up a game one victory with an 8-5 scoreline. It was the second straight loss for the Yankees who sit 3 1/2 games behind Baltimore for the same wild card spot the Royals are chasing. The pitching matchup is an excellent one with Masahiro Tanaka (11-4, 3.11 ERA) going up against Edinson Volquez (10-10, 4.88 ERA). Tanaka has won four straight while Volquez is now up to four unbeaten starts. Tanaka faced KC back in May, escaping with a no decision after giving up six runs and seven hits – three home runs – over seven innings. Volquez has pitched well against the bronx bombers in his career, holding a 2-1 record with a 3.10 ERA over 20.1 innings. That includes 13 strikeouts and allowing just one walk. The rally Mantis is on fire in KC at the moment and the Wolf is going to ride the wave with that little green stick creature.
