MLB Tips – 30th August

The Wolf continued the winning streak with a 8-5 record on Monday. Both previews got the cash including the underdog pick in the Royals that delivered excellent value. It’s now time for tempo Tuesday as The Wolf looks to keeps his silky swing going.

Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago Cubs (10:05am) (Best)

Tip: Cubs WIN ($1.38)

Someone forgot to tell Pittsburgh their season was over because they are coming from nowhere to get amongst the NL wild card race. They have win four games in a row and eight in a row on the road and will now look to take the momentum with them in to this series against the Cubs in the windy city. Chicago now has a seven game stretch at home and the confines of Wrigley Field have been good to the Cubs recently, winner of four straight and 12 of their last 14 at home. These two have played 12 times this season with the Cubs prevailing in nine of those meetings which includes five of the six at Wrigley. It won’t be any easier for Pittsburgh in the opener with spot starter Steven Brault (0-1, 3.60 ERA) going head to head with Jake Arrieta (16-5, 2.62 ERA). Arrieta has had an outstanding August going 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his four starts. He’s 9-2 with a 1.99 ERA in 13 career starts against the Pirates which includes a 3-1 record and 2.67 ERA this season. It would be a monumental upset if the Pirates win here because Arrieta is a superstar. Is it obvious the Wolf loves this guy yet?

Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies (9:05am)

Tip: Nationals -1.5 ($1.77)

The Nationals appear to be in cruise control at the moment, heading towards the playoffs with minimum effort as possible. They are losers in six of their last eight contests while allowing six runs per game in the process. Tanner Roark (13-7, 2.99 ERA) is now tasked with trying to slow down that run rate when he takes on the Phillies in the opener of a three game series. He is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three starts against Philadelphia this season which is a very positive start. Roark is winless in his last two starts however, allowing eight runs in 11.1 innings which is a tad concerning. Opposing Roark will be highly regarded rookie Jake Thompson (1-3, 9.78 ERA) who has struggled so far this season. He’s allowed 21 runs in 19.1 innings with his only victory coming against the Rockies but even then he gave up three runs in five innings. The Phillies snatched four of the six games earlier this season but Washington has bounced back to claim the last six this year and outscored Philadelphia 38-16 in doing so. Liking the run line here so jump on.
