MLB Tips – 27th September

The Wolf went 7-3 on Monday to notch up 900 wins for the season with both previews grabbing the cash. It was a sad day though with the passing of Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. He was one of The Wolf’s favourties and will be sorely missed.

NY Mets at Miami Marlins (Best)

Tip: Mets WIN ($1.82)

The Marlins will open this three game set with very heavy hearts after the tragic passing of superstar ace Jose Fernandez. Game one was meant to be a starting spot for the larger than life Fernandez after his start got pushed back a day to allow one of the Miami kids to get a start after the Marlins dropped out of playoff contention. It’s going to be very difficult for the ball club to move forward, just one day on from the incident but as they say life must go on and Miami will try to do so with Adam Conley (8-6, 3.94 ERA) returning from the DL to take up the start. Conley was smashed for 11 runs in nine innings in his two turns prior to the DL visit. Opposing Conley will be the ageless Bartolo Colon (14-7, 3.12 ERA) who hasn’t lost since August 15. He last faced Miami just last month, going seven strong innings while allowing just the one earned run. It’s hard seeing Miami being able to focus on this game as much as they’d love to win it for Fernandez. The Mets have to keep winning to play post season and will get it done. RIP Jo Fez #16

Oakland A’s at LA Angels

Tip: Under 8 runs ($2.05)

Game one of this three game set will see Jered Weaver (12-12, 5.20 ERA) opposing A’s rookie Sean Manaea (6-9, 4.03 ERA). Weaver owns a 6-6 record with a 4.92 ERA in 16 home starts this season and will face the Athletics for the fifth time this season. He is 1-0 with a 4.56 ERA against the A’s in his four start, not factoring in three of the decisions. Weaver was a last start winner against Texas behind six innings of work, giving up four runs from six hits. Manaea hasn’t allowed a run in his last two starts since returning from an injury and was an unlucky last start loser, going down 2-1 despite pitching six scoreless innings. He saw the Angels back at the start of August, going 5.2 innings and allowing five runs in a 5-4 loss. Few key under trends pointing us down that path for both teams including the Angels 12-3-1 in the last 16 home games going under while the A’s are 5-1 under in their last 6 overall. If you want a winner, slight lean on the Angels but more confident in the under.
