MLB Tips – 27th July

The hot streak came to an end on Tuesday with a very vanilla day going 5-5 with one game postponed. The Wolf says not to worry though as he can’t remember the last time there were two losing days in a row.

SD Padres at Toronto Blue Jays (9:07am) (Best)

Tip: Blue Jays WIN ($1.45)

Toronto cruised to victory on Tuesday despite the scoreline reading 4-2 in favour of the home side. It was a 2 run shot in the ninth inning that gave the Padres their two runs which gives the Padres 23 consecutive games with a HR. SD is now just 4 games short of tying the major league record for consecutive HR games and it’s the longest in the NL since Atlanta achieved 23 straight back in 2006. Marcus Stroman (8-4, 4.90 ERA) starts for Toronto and is coming of eight innings against Arizona where allowed just the one run. He’s now delivered three quality starts in the last four attempts and appears to be getting in to his rhythm. Opposing him will be Andrew Cashner (4-7, 4.79 ERA) who looks like he is starting his final game in a Padres jersey with it heavily rumoured he is on the trade block. His last two efforts against St Louis and SF were impressive but facing Toronto at home is going to prove a bit more of a challenge. Further to that, he is winless on the road holding an 0-4 record with a 6.59 ERA in seven starts.

Atlanta Braves at Minnesota Twins (10:10am)

Tip: Twins WIN ($1.56)

The Wolf thought it about time he finally gave the Minnesota Twins some love after being on the wrong end of many tips this season. It’s been 25 years since the Twins won the World Series against the Braves and it’s widely regarded as one of the best title deciders in the history of baseball. It’s now 2016 and both teams are fighting it out to avoid the worst record of the season and will battle out a two game series at Target Field. The Twins have played a heck of a lot better in July, winning 12 of their 20 games this month, despite their bullpen making it harder than it needs to be. Atlanta has lost five in a row and was just swept by the Rockies in four games, outscored 26-12 in the process. Ervin Santana (3-8, 3.93 ERA) takes the ball for the Twins and while he started the season quite rough, he’s slowly turned it around and has allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last six starts. There likely won’t be many runs on offer in this one so the under might be worth a second look as well.
