On Friday, the Cubs and Dodgers NLCS series is alive after the Cubs won game 4. The Wolf provides his preview of game 5 below. In the ALCS, the Yankees are one win away from the World Series but they’ll need to win in Houston on Saturday.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs (11:08am)
The Cubs survived elimination in game 4 but they’ll need to get past Clayton Kershaw in game 5. The Dodgers won 5-2 in game 1 and Kershaw went 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits. But the Cubs will hold hope of getting to Kershaw early after they beat him in the last matchup at Wrigley Field. In game 6 of the NLCS last season, the Cubs won 5-0 and they scored 4 runs against Kershaw. But the Wolf believes that was a rare bad start by Kershaw. He’s 9-2 on the road this season with a 2.03 ERA. The Dodgers have won 4 of his last 5 starts against the Cubs as well. Jose Quintana will start for the Cubs and he also went 5 innings in game 1. He allowed 2 runs in that game but pitched well before the 5th inning. He’s made one start at home in the playoffs and he allowed just 2 hits over 5.2 innings against the Nationals. The Cubs have enjoyed his time on the mound at home as they’ve won 7 straight home games when he starts. The key for Quintana will be getting past the 5th inning after he allowed 2 runs in the 5th in game 1. He had held the Dodgers scoreless in the previous 4 innings, so he’ll need to do the same in game 5. The Cubs bullpen will be pumped after saving a lead in game 4. They also managed to score first in game 4 and will be confident in game 5. So with the Cubs at home coming off a close victory, the Wolf is backing them in game 5 to get past Kershaw. The Wolf would also back the under total runs when available.
