The Wolf has you covered with his MLB tips for Tuesday’s action.
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox (9:10am)
Boston are back on ESPN as the Blue Jays head to Fenway Park on Tuesday. They split a four game series against the Yankees. The Red Sox will have Eduardo Rodriguez back from the disabled list for this game. In his rehab start, Rodriguez had seven strikeouts so the Wolf is confident can handle the Blue Jays. He also owns a 1.56 ERA at Fenway in 3 starts this season. This will be the Blue Jays first trip to Boston this year. They have a 1-5 record this year against the Red Sox at home. But they’ll have a good opportunity for a win as Marcus Stroman gets the ball. He’s 9-5 this season and he has a 5-2 record on the road. However, he had a poor start against the Red Sox last time when he allowed 6 runs in 4.2 innings. Mookie Betts homered against him and he hit one last game against the Yankees. They have a 2-4 record in their past 6 games and they’ve conceded 10+ runs in three of six. The Wolf can’t see the Blue Jays getting an upset and has the Red Sox winning by 2+ runs.
Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics (12:05pm)
Tampa Bay are surprisingly second in the AL East and they need to win these games. They won two of three against the Angels and have won four of their last five games. Jake Odorizzi is their starter for this game and he has a 5-4 record this year. He’s been unlucky in his last two career starts at Oakland with two no-decisions. The last start was in 2016 and he pitched 8 scoreless innings. However, this season he has allowed a home run in 15 of his 16 starts. This stat has the Wolf worried for the Rays. For the Athletics, they swept the Indians at home and have won five straight home games. Khris Davis hit a walkoff homer on Sunday and he has 25 home runs this season. He should enjoy facing Odorizzi. Their starter is Daniel Gossett and he’s also struggling with the long ball. He’s allowed 8 home runs in 6 starts and he has a 5.40 ERA at home. The Wolf can see a high scoring game and in the last four meetings, the total averages 11.5 runs. The last two have finished on exactly nine runs and he thinks both pitchers will struggle here. To top it off, the last 7 games with Odorizzi on the mound are 7-0 against the over total. Back the over total game score.
