Wednesday baseball in the Majors is headlined by the Angels and Red Sox clash so the Wolf will look at both sides below. In the late games, the Mariners are great value for a home win over the Astros.
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves (9:35am)
The Phillies and Braves can’t be split in the betting so the Wolf will look for the best bet in this preview. He says it should be low scoring as the two sides totalled just 3 runs in game 1. The pitching matchup also looks strong for both sides. For the Braves, Foltynewicz has a 2-1 record and a 2.89 ERA against the Phillies in his last 5 starts. He pitched against them on Opening Day weekend and recorded 7 strikeouts over 5 innings. He’s reached 90+ pitches in all 3 starts so far and the Wolf is predicting another strong outing. While for the Phillies, Nick Pivetta toes the rubber. He has a good record against the Braves with a 3.00 ERA and 3 wins out of 4 starts. He has looked good in his recent starts. Against the Reds, he went 7 innings and only allowed 5 hits. Previously, he stuck out 9 against the Brewers in 5.2 innings of scoreless work. In this matchup, the Braves are 7-4-1 against the under when playing the Phillies at home. Overall, the Phillies are 24-16-1 against the under when they face the Braves at any venue. This season, the Braves are 7-5-3 against the under. So take the under total here as the safe bet.
Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels (12:07pm)
The Wolf will look at game 1 between the 13-3 Angels and 13-2 Red Sox in the late game of the day. Both sides are looking impressive in April so this should be a fun series to watch. Shohei Ohtani is back on the mound and will look for his third straight victory. He’s dominated the Athletics in both starts so far. His last outing saw 12 strikeouts, but the Wolf thinks he’ll have a tougher time against Boston. JD Martinez is starting to heat up and Hanley Ramirez is looking good again. They thrashed the Yankees and Orioles at home previously as well. The concern for Boston will be David Price and whether he can rebound from an injury last start. He lasted just 1 inning against the Yankees and he earned 4 runs. The Angels are the best scoring team in the MLB so far and they’ll likely enjoy facing Price if he struggles early on. In the end, the over total runs offers good value. The Angels average 6.4 runs per game and the Red Sox are just behind them on 5.9. Both sides also have positive records against the over this season. Also, the Red Sox are 10-3-2 against the over when they’re the away side and coming off a day’s rest. Meanwhile, the Angels will be fresh from 2 day’s rest.
