MLB Feature Previews

LA Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies (9:05am) (Best)

Tip: Phillies WIN ($2.30)

This contest brings back memories of the infamous Tommy Lasorda vs the Philly Phanatic stoush. Go and look it up if you haven’t seen it! Great stuff. LA travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies in the first game of a three game set. It will be the first time Chase Utley steps out on to Citizens Bank Park in an opposing uniform since switching to the Dodgers colours. His first 13 seasons in the majors were spent in Philadelphia before being traded to LA at last year’s deadline. He and the Dodgers have some concerns at the moment, suffering an 11-3 thumping at the hands of the Pirates and picking up their third loss in four games. Meanwhile the Phillies have picked up four straight wins and scored 29 runs during this winning streak. After sweeping the Rockies, Philly will be up and about ready to take on the challenge that is the LA batting line-up. Vince Velasquez (8-4, 3.94 ERA) goes head to head with Kenta Maeda (11-7, 3.31 ERA) on the mound and it should be a good battle. Velasquez is 4-1 at home and carries a 1.72 ERA in nine starts. Maeda will look to take his unbeaten streak to five games and holds a 7-2 road record with a 3.28 ERA. Tipping the Phillies stay on their roll.

Miami Marlins at Cincinnati Reds (9:10am)

Tip: Reds WIN ($1.74)

The Miami Marlins were dealt a massive blow to their 2016 season this week with the highest paid player in the major Giancarlo Stanton being sidelined for the remainder of the year. They now face an uphill battle for the second wild card spot in the NL and face the Reds in game two of the series. The Reds have their own injury concerns with Bill Hamilton removed from the game on Tuesday with bruising on the knee. He is leading the majors in steals this season and will be a big out if sidelined for a length of time. Jose Urena (1-3, 6.69 ERA) gets the nod for Miami and is getting his second life in the rotation after Adam Conley went down with a finger injury. The Marlins unfortunately have limited choices for their rotation and this start is a big gap for them. The home team sends Anthony DeSclafani (6-1, 3.11 ERA) to the mound and he’s coming off his first loss of the season against the Cardinals. He has allowed three runs or less in 11 of his 12 turns this season but hasn’t seen the seventh inning in his last four. He is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA at home this season, get on board the Reds.
