Don’t miss The Wolf’s Friday MLB tips. It’s a smaller card than usual, but plenty of winners to be found.
Tampa Bay Rays at Baltimore Orioles
Tip: Orioles WIN ($1.71)
The Orioles are now right at the pointy end of the AL East after picking up two of their three games against Boston. They will now have an 11 game homestand and will look to take advantage of that when they host the Rays. Baltimore have hosted Tampa twice this year – both three game series – and have beaten them in all six games. The Orioles own the best home record in the league at 45-25. They look to Yovani Gallardo (5-7, 5.44 ERA) to kick them off in the right direction after allowing three runs or less in seven of his last eight turns. Last time he saw Tampa, he went five innings and allowed just the one earned off five hits. Trying to get the job done for Tampa will be Blake Snell (5-8, 3.62 ERA) who has had a rough time in recent outings. He has lost three of his last four turns and failed to finish the fourth inning in any of them. He hasn’t finished the sixth inning in seven of his last eight and seemingly giving out HR’s for fun which is dangerous given Baltimore lead the majors in HR’s with 232. If Snell lasts more than five innings in this one, the Wolf will be shocked. The Orioles love Camden Yards and we’ll see them collect on the first five innings, the win and the handicap.
St Louis Cardinals at SF Giants
Both teams still have a chance of snagging an NL wild card spot when it’s all said and done with the Giants the more likely of the two to see post season play. They currently hold the top wild card spot, just a half-game ahead of the Mets while the Cardinals sit a game back from the Giants just outside the second wild card spot. With the Mets plays their remaining 16 games against sub .500 opposition, both these clubs know they need to keep winning. The first game will see Johnny Cueto (15-5, 2.90 ERA) going against Adam Wainwright (11-8, 4.45 ERA) who are both coming off last start wins. Cueto threw seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Wainwright tossed eight innings, giving up just the one run and six hits. With both pitchers finding a bit of form, the under looks the play in this one. The Cardinals under is 5-0 in their last 5 overall and last 5 vs a RH starter. The under is 5-1-1 in the Giants last 7 home games vs a RH starter and 8-3 in their last 11 overall. Tipping a 3-2 scoreline.
