The Red Sox are out of the playoffs and the Astros move on to the ALCS after a 5-4 road win at Fenway Park. They’ll await the Yankees/Indians game 5 clash in Cleveland on Thursday. In the National League, the Cubs are one win away from the NLCS and the Wolf provides his tips below.
Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs (8:35am)
The Cubs are up 2-1 in this series and they’ll send Jake Arrieta to the mound for game 4. He’s 5-2 at home this season with a 2.90 ERA. He hasn’t pitched in this series at all and hasn’t made a start at home since late August. So he’ll be fresh and ready to take on the Nationals lineup. In his last home start, he dominated the Pirates in 6 innings as he allowed just 2 hits. The Cubs are 2-0 in his last 2 home starts and 6-3 overall at home this season. He did pitch against the Nationals and they scored 6 runs against him in Washington. But the Cubs did win 4-3 in his last start against the Nationals at home last season. For the Nationals to save the series, Tanner Roark will get the ball. He has a good record against the Cubs having won three of his last four decisions against them. But his ERA on the road was quite high this season at 4.26. The Nationals have lost in last three starts overall and they’re also 0-3 on the road when he pitches. The Cubs have the momentum after a 2-1 victory in game 3 and they’ll be tough to beat at home with a chance at the NLCS. So the Wolf is getting on the Cubs to have the highest scoring inning and they’ll beat the Nationals.
New York Yankees @ Cleveland Indians
It’s down to game 5 and the winner will reach the ALCS against the Astros. Both teams have won two games at home in this series and game 5 is in Cleveland. However, the Yankees will be super confident after they scored 6 runs against Kluber in game 2. They ended up losing 9-8 in extras, but the Wolf can see a high scoring game. The Yankees lineup is back in form with the likes of Hicks, Bird and Sanchez hitting well. CC Sabathia will be back on the mound and he pitched 5.1 innings in game 2. He allowed just 3 hits and 2 runs. But he hasn’t a earned a win in his last 5 starts against the Indians. Sabathia debuted for the Indians back in 2001 and he won a Cy Young in Cleveland. So his career has come full circle as he attempts to knock off his former side on Thursday. But it will likely come down to the bullpen. The Yankees blew a 8-3 lead in game 2 and they can ill afford the same in game 5. They will hoping to have the lead in the latter stages for closer Aroldis Chapman. He has 6 strikeouts in just 3.2 innings against the Indians. For Cleveland, they will be hoping Edwin Encarnacion can return to the lineup after missing both games in New York. They scored just 3 runs at Yankee Stadium and they need his power. But they scored a total of 13 runs in the first two games of this series. They have scored 2 of more runs against CC Sabathia in his last 5 starts against them. So in a winner take all game 5, the Wolf is backing the total to reach over 7.5 runs.
