Wow the Mariners were terrible on Tuesday but the Wolf rebounded in the late games with a few wins. On Wednesday, the Orioles are good value at home and so is the over total between the Reds and Phillies. The same can be said for the Cardinals home game against the Brewers. The matchup of the day is in Boston and the Wolf will preview the clash.
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox (9:10am)
The first instalment of the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry starts this Wednesday. It’s fair to say the Yankees have struggled so far in 2018 with lofty expectations. Prized offseason recruit G. Stanton has been a strikeout machine and they lost 3 of 4 against the Orioles at home in their last series. So the Red Sox are favourites in this matchup with Chris Sale on the mound. They’re currently riding an 8 game winning streak. But in reality, they were only against the Rays and Marlins, which are two pretty bad teams. They’ve also lost Xander Bogaerts for a few weeks and he was leading this offence nicely. But the Wolf will still be looking at a high scoring game. In the last matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox, both these pitchers were on the mound and the scoreline was 9-2 in the Yankees favour. They’ve also hit 5 home runs against Sale in his last 2 starts against them. Severino also has trouble against the Red Sox with a 4.40 ERA in his last 5 starts. The Wolf thinks the total runs at 7 is pretty low and sees no reason why both sides can’t score 4+ runs. They’re both averaging 4+ runs per game this season. The Yankees last 3 games have totalled 10 or more runs. While the Red Sox have scored 18 total runs in their last 2 wins at Fenway. Take the over.
Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Dodgers (12:10pm)
In the late game of the day, the Wolf will be looking at the Dodgers and Athletics clash. Both sides aren’t in the greatest of form so this should be a close contest. The Dodgers have started the season with a 3-6 record and broke a 4 game losing streak in their extra-innings victory over the Giants. Oakland is also under .500 with a 4-7 record and that includes 5 losses against the Angels already. The pitching matchup isn’t looking great for the Athletics though. Alex Wood is up for the Dodgers and the lefty will be looking for his first win in 2018. In his first 2 starts so far, the Dodgers offence has been shutout so he’s been unlucky. He’s allowed just 7 hits in 14 innings and his ERA sits below 2. So the Wolf is predicting a tough outing for the Athletics. They’ll have Daniel Mengden on the hill and he’s put together two decent but not spectacular starts. In 11 innings pitched, he’s allowed 12 hits. But the worry is the 8 earned runs that’s he conceded. Since last season, the Athletics aren’t great on the road with a 30-54 record. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 65-28 at home. So in the end, the Wolf can’t see the Dodgers dropping this home game.
