MLB Tips – 10th July

MLB betting odds multi

The Wolf showed his true colours with a 10-4 record on Saturday and it was nice to be back in the double digit wins. The dog pick of the day in the Pirates got up at $2.30 however the best bet crashed thanks to a really poor Sale outing. We’ll get the best back on track Sunday. The Wolf has also promised in depth previews for the All Star Game and Home Run Derby so stay tuned.

Bring on Sunday!

Nationals at NY Mets (9:15am) (Best)

Tip: Nationals WIN

If losing 3-1 to the Nats on Saturday wasn’t bad enough, the Mets received the news that they will need to shut down one of their starters Matt Harvey for the season. He was scheduled to start this game but will now be replaced on the hill by Logan Verrett (3-5, 4.01 ERA). Whether Verrett is the long term solution to replacing Harvey in the rotation is unclear but this could be classed as an audition at this point. His last start was against the Nats back in June where he permitted two runs through five innings and got tagged with a loss. Washington will have Max Scherzer (9-6, 3.21 ERA) take the ball and he’ll look to continue his dominance over the Mets. In his previous start against the Mets just last week, he struck out 10 and threw 7.1 scoreless innings. He is in great form, allowing one run or less in five of his last six starts. Worth noting that one of the danger bats in the Mets lineup, Yoenis Cespedes left Saturdays game with an injury and will likely miss this one. Tipping Scherzer to throw at least 9 strikeouts so watch out for the player specials.

Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates (9:15am)

Tip: Over 8 runs

The All Star break is looking more and more appealing every day for the Chicago Cubs. They have now dropped eight of their last nine games after losing 8-4 in the series opener to the Pirates. They no longer own the best record in the MLB which no one would’ve seen coming at the beginning of June. The Pirates however have won 11 of their last 14 and have closed the gap to 7.5 games behind the Cubs. Chicago lefty Jon Lester (9-4, 2.67 ERA) will face Pittsburgh for the fourth time this season and is 2-1 in three starts so far, allowing four runs through  18.1 innings. This one will be a bit different though with catcher David Ross now on the DL, Lester will have a rookie catcher behind the plate. Don’t underestimate the loss of your #1 catcher, it’s immense for a pitcher. Chad Kuhl (1-0, 4.09) gets the nod for Pittsburgh and has given fairly good service to the Pirates to date. He’s had two big league starts and his last effort against Oakland was probably the best, allowing two runs and seven hits through six innings. We should see about 10 runs in this one and the Cubs batters will likely get to Kuhl.
