It has been a very vanilla week for The Wolf with a 5-4 record continuing what has been a relatively dull week. That is about to change on Wednesday with a full card!

SD Padres at Pittsburgh Pirates (9:05am)

Tip: Pirates WIN ($1.68)

The Pirates are somehow managing to hang in contention for a playoff spot in the NL despite sitting around the .500 mark. They’ve had a soft spot in their schedule in recent times but have failed to take advantage of it and will now have another sub-par team come to PNC Park in the form of the San Diego Padres. They are coming off a series win against the Reds who hadn’t lost a series since the All Star break but is just 3-6 in a stretch that has seen them play Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Atlanta. They now sit three games outside the second wildcard spot in the NL. Meanwhile the Padres are even worse, sitting 15 games below .500 and just 21-33 on the road in 2016 which isn’t great when you’re kicking off a nine game road trip. Two right handers go toe to toe with Luis Perdomo (5-5, 6.67 ERA) taking on Chad Kuhl (1-0, 4.19 ERA). Perdomo is a struggling rookie and Kuhl is making just his fifth career start for Pittsburgh. Tipping this one to be close but the Pirates should get the cash, Kuhl has shown better signs this year.

Cincinnati Reds at St Louis Cardinals (10:15am)

Tip: Over 8.5 runs ($1.80)

Game one of this series was about as stunning as they get. St Louis were down 4-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning with just one out left when they managed to pull off an almighty comeback to win the game 5-4 on a walk-off hit by pitch. Crazy. The run line was set at 8.5 in this match-up and it’s again set at the same value for Wednesday’s match-up. The over is now 8-2-1 in the Cardinals last 11 overall and 4-1 in their last 5 home games. Giving more value to the over, it’s 5-1-1 in the Cardinals last 7 game vs a left handed starter which is what they will face in game two in Reds starter Brandon Finnegan (7-8, 4.45 EA). The Reds over record is 4-1-1 in his last 6 road starts vs teams with a winning record. Mike Leake (8-9, 4.80 ERA) will get the ball for the Cardinals and he’s struggling, allowing 19 runs in his last three starts. The Reds aren’t outstanding but they can punish you if given the chance. Now if the red birds can just figure out how to hit with runners in scoring position we should see the total go over.
