|AFL Preview: Round 20
Gold Coast v Greater Western Sydney
4.35pm AEST, Saturday, August 6
Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast
|Best Bet: GWS 1-39 ($2.50)
Other Bet: GWS Total – Under 115.5 ($1.90)
GWS can’t afford to take Gold Coast lightly, but will be looking for a big win.
Gold Coast have been playing reasonable football for seven weeks now, and have recorded some recent wins over the likes of St Kilda, Brisbane and Fremantle. They lost to Melbourne last week and the Bulldogs in Round 17.
GWS have won three in a row since their surprise Round 16 loss to Collingwood, including last week’s 88 points win over Richmond. They also beat Port by 19 points and Brisbane by 79 in that run.
Stats That Matter
The two sides are 4-4 in their overall battles, but GWS have won the last three matches between the sides, by an average of 57 points.
Gold Coast have won five of their nine matches at Metricon this year, albeit at -20% POT and 44% ATS. Only two of their matches there have been under the total match points.
GWS are +17% POT interstate this season, as against +13% POT overall. They have started under $1.30 when interstate twice this year, winning both, and splitting the line 1-1.
DT Talk Player Prop Bets
2016 Line: Gold Coast 8-10, GWS 12-6
2016 Over/Under: Gold Coast 13-5, GWS 9-9
GWS have won a few games in a row now, all against teams outside the eight, and each time have played some of the dazzling, fast-paced football for which they are renowned. Gold Coast looms as another victim, but have been playing well despite the absence of their first choice midfield.
The Giants should dominate the ball from the middle, but have proven unreliable in regards to intensity, while the Suns have been playing with great spirit in recent times.
While there should be no danger GWS lose this game, particularly with so much at stake, it won’t surprise if they aren’t quite mentally switched on and are already looking ahead to their Round 21 game against West Coast.
