|AFL Preview: Round 17
North Melbourne v Port Adelaide
Saturday 4.35pm AEST
Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
|Best Bet: North 1-39 ($2.15)
Other Bet: Over 185.5 points ($1.90)
North needs a win to get their season back on track, but Port will be no pushover.
North has now lost four in a row, and five of the last six, falling from top of the ladder to eighth in the process. All losses have come against sides in the top eight, and they are yet to lose a game to a team in the bottom ten on the ladder.
Port have lost three of their last four, but their form is better than it reads, beating Richmond easily, but losing to highly credentialed teams like the Bulldogs and Hawthorn, while throwing in a bad one against Fremantle, who were in some form at the time.
Stats That Matter
North leads the last ten meetings 7-3. They are 4-1 at Etihad in that time, but the Power did defeat the Roos there last year.
Since the start of 2012, North are +20% POT at Etihad Stadium, ranked 4th in the league. They are 61% ATS there, ranked 3rd, 54% of their games go under, ranked 4th.
Port have played Etihad eleven times under Ken Hinkley, for five wins at +84% POT, but only 36% ATS, and 73% over the total match points. Their overall interstate record in this time is +16% POT, 55% ATS and 52% at the over.
North has been playing solid football in their losing run, missing important players and playing interstate three times. Losses to Sydney at the SCG, Geelong, Hawthorn, the Crows in Adelaide and West Coast in Perth have only been by an average of 26 points.
They were due for a winnable game, but even though Port do look like the best of the rest, the game being in Melbourne and with North knowing they can’t afford to put a foot wrong against the lower sides should see a Kangaroo victory.
