Brazil 2016: Medal Matches
The Wolf went 2-0 in the men’s semi’s tipping a Del Potro upset and a comfortble straight sets win for Murray. He’s locked in for the medal matches and says he has found plenty of value.
Andy Murray v Juan Martin Del Potro
The run of Del Potro has captured the hearts of the entire world and the Argentine looks to complete one of the most remarkable comeback by winning gold. Four years a go in London he came up just short in the semi against Federer but won bronze with a upset win over Djokovic – the man who he beat again in Rio. This time he has gone one better by beating Nadal in a thrilling semi final to set up a clash with the defending Olympic champion in Andy Murray. Murray leads the H2H 5-2 with Del Potro winning their most recent meeting, but the pair have not met for 3 years. The is no questioning the talent of Del Potro but will he have the legs to go with Murray over 5 sets (gold medal match is best of 5 sets). Murray cruised past Nishikori and will be fresh but The Wolf says the pressure is on Andy in this one. He goes in a heavy favourite, is on a 17 match win streak and is the defending champion. Only 1 of their 7 meetings has been decided in straight sets and it will take Murray 4 tough sets to grab his second gold medal.
Tip: Sets Murray 3-1 ($3.60)
Kei Nishikori v Rafael Nadal
Nadal was over powered by Del Potro in his semi while Nishikori was completely outclassed. He staring down the barrel of consecutive beatings as Nadal is a man he quite simply has not been able to get past. Nishikori has beaten the Spaniard only once in their ten encounters and has lost twice to him this year in straight sets. We know what a warrior Nadal is and you can be sure he will play every point as if it is his last in order to grab that bronze medal. Rafa will use his heavy top spin forehand and continually get the ball up high into the Nishikori backhand as he has in the past. Nishikori has to hit a high percentage of balls down the line if he is to stand a chance but The Wolf says he won’t be able to execute with enough consistency. Rafa in straight.
Tip: Sets Nadal 2-0 ($2.62)
