Brazil 2016: 3rd Round

Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal made light work of their 2nd round opponents but the same cannot be said about David Ferrer who went crashing out to Evgeny Donskoy. Half of the players will be in action on Thursday with Monfils and Cilic facing off in the match of the day. The Wolf is also keen to keep a close eye on Del Potro in order to see how he backs up his victory of world number one Novak Djokovic.

Feature Previews

Gael Monfils v Marin Cilic
Somehow the pair have met just once on tour and if this one lives up to The Wolf’s expectations we are in for an absolute treat. For starters both them have form on their side. Cilic made the semi’s at Queen’s and backed that up with a quarter final showing in Wimbledon. He breezed past Dimitrov and Albot here and the fast conditions suit him to a tee. The same can be said about Monfils who is without doubt in the best form of his career. His win in Washington was special and unlike in the past, he was able to go back out the next week and make a semi final charge at the Toronto Masters. Their only meeting went three sets and this one has got epic three setter written all over it. Both men have the ability to dominate on serve and the surface really favours players who can produce the one-two punch. Back the Overs and then sit back and enjoy.
Tip: Over 22.5 games ($1.83)

Rafael Nadal v Gilles Simon
As is the case against most players Nadal has a dominant record against Simon. He has won 7 of their 8 encounters and has dropped just a single set en route to posting 5 consecutive win over the Frenchman. Simon has notorously fallen short at the tail end of sets and it is remarkable that 8 of the 21 sets they have played have had at least 12 games. With that being the case Simon should definitely have a better record against Rafa. That being said, those stats reveal what makes Nadal great – his ability to produce his best tennis when it counts the most and the relentless pressure he puts on his opponents on every single point. Nadal has been on a roll and it should come as no surpise that is is at the Olympics.
Tip: Nadal -4.5 ($1.83)
