Brazil 2016: Synchronised Swimming
The Wolf previews all the events for the Synchronised Swimming for Rio 2016.
Synchronised Swimming Duet
Russia’s swimming duet Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina was labelled “two of the best athletes in history” by FINA. The dynamic duet would have been sweating on the International Olympic Committee’s decision to allow them to compete but now they are in, they won’t be stopped. They are poised to tie the record for the most synchronized swimming gold medals. China are clear second favourite but were no match for the Russian pair at the 2015 World Champs when second. Highlights Russia’s dominance.
Synchronised Swimming Team
Russia finished with eight of a possible nine golds as hosts of the World Aquatic Championships last year, such is their dominance of the sport at the moment. In 2013 in Barcelona, they collected seven golds from seven disciplines. Not to mention they have won every duet and team gold since Sydney in 2000! They are one of the hardest working group of athletes in world sport and it would be a major upset if they were rolled, which seems extremely unlikely.
